Water softener installation in Pewaukee, WI

16–22 grains per gallon · Pewaukee’s published figure

Pewaukee has no lake-water escape hatch. Two utilities, seventeen wells between them, not a drop of purchased surface water. The hardness here is a permanent feature of the aquifer underneath it, not a phase.

Where Pewaukee gets its water

Pewaukee is served by the City of Pewaukee and the Village of Pewaukee water utilities, two separate systems. Between them they pump seventeen municipal wells, 153 to 1,415 feet deep. Wisconsin DNR lists both systems as 100% groundwater with no purchased water.

16–22grains per gallon, published

City publishes 338 mg/L East Side and 345 mg/L West Side; the Village measured 280–380 mg/L.

The City utility publishes hardness by service area specifically so residents can set a softener: 338 parts per million on the East Side system (about 19.8 grains) and 345 on the West Side / Highlands system (about 20.2). On the Village side, the 2022 Water System Master Plan measured 280 to 380 milligrams per liter across its wells and entry point, which is 16.4 to 22.2 grains per gallon.

What Pewaukee homes usually need

  • Free quote by phone
  • Installed by a licensed WI plumber
  • Softeners retested to zero

$3,950 installed for the ZeroGrain One: softener, activated carbon and the reverse-osmosis drinking tap. Installation by an independent licensed Wisconsin plumbing contractor is in that number, not added to it, and the date is set once the equipment is in hand and approved for use in Wisconsin (SPS 384). What a softener costs explains what the $3,950 includes. Swapping out an old unit is replacing a softener; the drinking tap is reverse osmosis installation.

Questions

Pewaukee water questions

Anything that is not here, ask it on the call.

Softening removes hardness minerals. It is not a health or safety treatment and we do not market it as one. On a private well, Wisconsin’s state-certified lab tests for bacteria and nitrates are a separate matter and not something we sell.

The city publishes it so you can set a softener

Most utilities report hardness once a year in a table and leave it there. Pewaukee’s City utility breaks it out by service area for the express purpose of letting residents dial in a softener, which is unusually useful and worth using. Confirm which system feeds your address before you trust either figure.

Iron sits just under the staining line

The Village’s own engineers describe the day-to-day issues as aesthetic: iron, dissolved solids, chlorides and manganese. Measured iron has run up to 0.26 milligrams per liter, close to the 0.3 threshold where staining starts to show. Hard water with iron near the line is exactly the combination where sizing from a real reading beats a rule of thumb. Both Pewaukee utilities are also working through radionuclide compliance from natural erosion of the deep aquifer and are building treatment for it. That is the utility’s job and not something we sell against.

Part of Pewaukee falls under Waukesha’s softener rule

The City of Waukesha says its softener salt program applies to every softener that discharges to the Waukesha sewer system, including those in portions of Pewaukee. On that system a softener still in use, a new one included, has to be optimized by a company on Waukesha’s approved list. Waukesha says the optimizer may charge for that visit, and any charge is not in our price. If your home drains to the Waukesha sewer, raise it on the call before you sign anything.

How does the quote work in Pewaukee?

We start from the number, not from a catalog: what Pewaukee publishes, and what your house needs. One short call puts the two together, at no charge. If the numbers justify softening we size it from them; if they point away from softening, the call says so plainly. On install day the plumber reads hardness, iron, chlorine and TDS at your tap before anything is connected, and on a softener install retests hardness at the end so you watch it read zero.
