Waukesha County and the high-ground suburbs around it: the North Shore, Ozaukee and Washington. Every town below has its own page carrying that town’s utility, source and published hardness. Where nothing is published, it says so.

The water changes more between these counties than most people expect, and sometimes inside a single village.
Waukesha County
Ten towns, and no two of them drink the same water. Brookfield and Hartland run into the twenties on their own wells; Waukesha and most of Menomonee Falls run about eight on purchased Lake Michigan supply. Roughly 40,000 county homes are on private wells that answer to nobody’s annual report.

Milwaukee County
The North Shore and Wauwatosa run on Lake Michigan water at roughly eight grains, the softest tap water in this market, and still “hard” on the USGS scale. Here the honest recommendation is usually carbon and a drinking-water tap before a softener, and River Hills and Bayside are largely on wells anyway.

Ozaukee County
Ozaukee splits cleanly. Cedarburg publishes 21 to 24 grains out of deep wells and says outright that it does not soften. Mequon and Thiensville resell Lake Michigan water at about eight, to the minority of addresses actually connected to it.

Washington County
Some of the hardest published water in the region and some of the least documented. Germantown publishes 24 grains across six wells. Richfield has no utility at all: the whole village is on private wells, by the Village Board’s own choice.
