Fox Point, Milwaukee County
Fox Point water, by the numbers
Fox Point’s housing stock is old enough that the plumbing, not the water, is often the thing worth looking at. Eight-grain lake water treats easily; what varies here is what it runs through on the way to your fixture.
Where Fox Point’s water comes from
Fox Point is served by the North Shore Water Commission. The supply is Lake Michigan water, treated at the Commission’s filtration plant in Glendale.
Commission-published 137 mg/L, about 8 grains per gallon.
Fox Point is one of the North Shore Water Commission’s three member villages and cities. The Commission publishes average hardness of 137 milligrams per liter as calcium carbonate, approximately 8 grains per gallon.

What eight grains actually justifies
Softening at 8 grains is a comfort and appliance-life decision rather than an obvious one, and honest advice depends on the house. In older homes the case is usually strongest for carbon and a drinking-water tap, and we would rather quote you that than a tank you do not need.
Where the drinking water gets finished
Reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink puts a dedicated filtered tap where you actually fill glasses, and on softened or lake water a membrane lasts years rather than seasons. It is quoted as its own line item you can take or drop.
What we would actually do here
The same thing we do everywhere: read your tap before recommending anything. Hardness, iron, chlorine and TDS, on the spot, in front of you, at no charge. If the numbers justify softening we size it from them; if they point at a drinking-water tap instead, that is what the quote says. On a softener install we run the same test at the end and you watch it read zero.
Softening removes hardness minerals. It is not a health or safety treatment and we do not market it as one. On a private well, Wisconsin’s state-certified lab tests for bacteria and nitrates are a separate matter and not something we sell.

Book a Fox Point visit
About an hour, at your own table. We read what your Fox Point tap actually runs and quote from that, not from a county average.

- We test. Hardness, iron, chlorine and TDS, read on the spot in front of you. Nothing leaves for a lab.
- We quote. One page, itemized, good for 30 days. Take it, compare it, sleep on it.
- A licensed plumber installs. Its own scheduled visit, permits pulled. A morning’s work.
- We retest to zero. On a softener install, the same test again, and you watch the number land.
